MAINE'IAC PRIMITIVE MOVEMENT

The Practice

Limitless natural movement is your birthright. We are all born knowing how to move throughout nature, just like any other species on Mother Earth. “Natures Method” builds muscularity, strength, speed, endurance, and flexibility in order to walk, run, quadruped, jump, climb, carry, balance, throw, catch, lift, swim, and defend yourself. Practicing these 12 skills outdoors, in nature, strengthens not only the body but also the mind.  Here are some key benefits of the Primitive Movement practice:

1.) Causes hypertrophy; which means your tissues and muscles gain strength through exertion.

2.) Fights off diseases, slows down the aging process, and improves overall health.

3.) Improves your body composition. (less fat…more muscle)

4.) Releasing chemicals called endorphins turns your mental outlook and mood positive … So that you are prepared to conquer new challenges instead of shying away from them.

5.) Builds bone density.

6.) Increases self-confidence and improves ones coordination, body awareness and mobility.

7.) Improves your state of mind, enabling you to think quicker and sharper… which leads to better mental health, and improved sleep quality.

POSTURE WORK & STRETCHING

Posture Work and Stretching are keystones of the Primitive Movement method. This segment of the program is designed to educate the, improving strength, flexibility, and muscle endurance, by learning the basic techniques required to perform practical exercise through the 12 movements. This segment is just as beneficial as “Bloc” training (below), and is best performed as a true “Natures Method” practice, outdoors, as our bodies integrate with and adapt to mother nature’s complex environment.

Posture exercises consist of flexing poses that engage all muscle groups. We include balance, plank and suspension work — hinging in all sorts of directions through Dynamic, Ballistic, Static, Active, Passive and PNF stretching, while continuously engaging the core. This method builds and aligns the body’s structure from the inside out, so the joints, muscles, and spine are trained to move in every direction for maximum mobility thereby providing support for real life situations. Once the body is aligned and strong enough, we start combining the exercises to create 20 to 60 minute Bloc training sessions.

BLOC TRAINING

In “Bloc training,” we select a group of exercises from any of the 12 movements (all of them if the environment permits) and sequence them together. Each exercise flows to the next with little or no rest, enabling one part of the body to rest as we work another. The pace throughout bloc training practice continuously changes up and down — along with the number of repetitions, load, and intensity — so explosive movements and resting postures are integrated for full effect.

What to expect:
Each session starts by warming the body from the inside out through posture work and stretching. Once the body is limber and focused we begin the practice, always performed outdoors, harnessing Mother Natures environmental challenges.
The truest way to engage in “Natures Method”/the “Natural Method” is on a random route through nature where we intermittently walk, run, quadruped, jump, climb, lift, carry, throw, catch, balance, and swim… time doesn’t exist… nothing exists except the exuberance that propels you through your expedition.

Any Primitive Movement “practice” session — whether it be alignment work, bloc training, or the ideal “Natures Method” obstacle course — simultaneously engages both the physical body and the senses, thereby increasing the body’s overall “I.Q.” Through practicing unpredictable routines in mother nature’s ever-changing environment, we keep the body guessing so it starts correcting and aligning itself immediately. In Primitive Movement the body is continuously challenged, and the mind is never bored! Through this ever-evolving cycle, we learn through exploration and continuously push the body and mind to challenge former limits.
